Nestled in a valley, at the foot of Mont Blanc, Courmayeur is the nicest and the most attractive resort in the Aosta Valley; it has been a major alpine centre since the 18th century thanks to its hospitality and to its mild climate all the year round.
The centre of the town offers a good range of attractions, shops (especially in via Roma, where you can find all the most important labels of the Italian fashion), bars, and restaurants. All this, added to the atmosphere of all the surrounding villages (Villair, Dolonne, La saxe, Entreves, La Palud), carefully restored in the respect of their traditional look, makes Courmayeur a fascinating resort.
It offers a top-quality ski area, facing Mont Blanc, with 100 km. of slopes suitable to skiers of any level. Here, in summer, besides the outdoor swimming pool, where to get splendidly suntanned, the different paths along the Veny Valley will make you enjoy trekking or mountain bike excursions.
The Ferret Valley, opposite to the Veny Valley, is a large valley running along the Grands Jorasses in a unique scenery that, in winter, in the absolute silence of the nature, it is a paradise for cross country ski lovers and in summer, besides the excursions, it offers a nine-hole golf court, a well equipped children’s area, trout –fishing facilities and such a lot of chalets and restaurants to spend the day in a complete relax.
The Mont Blanc cable car, the world’s “eighth wonder”, makes it possible to reach Peak Helbronner (mt. 3.450 alt.) and then, crossing the glaciers to Peak Aiguille du Midi (mt. 3840 alt.), to reach Chamonix in France. In winter it makes it possible, accompanied by Alpine Guides, to ski off-piste from Peak Helbronner, through the Toula glacier on the Italian side or through the Vallée Blanche on the French one. The Alpine Guide Association has a wide program of excursions, climbing or Heliski .
To complete its offer, Courmayeur has a large Forum Sport Center where you can find an Ice Stadium (the biggest in Italy), a meeting hall, tennis and squash courts, curling field, a modern fitness centre, an indoor practice golf court and a climbing wall.
The Thermal Baths and Spa of Pré Saint Didier,5 kilometres away from the Hotel, renowned since Romans period, have reopened in July 2005. The thermal hot water springs out from the ground and it is especially suitable to skin treatments and the wellness of the body.
